The Power of Pussy and Sister Goddess Activism with Louise Kuo Habakus

Inspired by the book, “Pussy: A Reclamation,” by Regena Thomashauer, Louise explores modern femininity. It’s time to take back what’s rightfully ours, the full responsibility and embodiment of our radiance, our power, and our joy. Mother Earth has been waiting for us. She knows it is the divine feminine that creates, gives, and protects life. The title is the portal and the message inside is even more provocative and revolutionary. Mama Gena has a recipe for true healing for what ails us. Heal the women, heal the world. What does the shame around this word, pussy and her sister the C- word, have to do with the reasons we push away compliments, play small, don’t ask, and keep a lid on it in a world where we feel worried and wrong? What does it matter if our culture does not honor grief, and her kinswomen: rage, longing, jealousy, frustration? What happens when we don’t feel our feelings as women? Find out in this special-edition episode which is also live on Fearless Parent podcast.

Dr. Laura Brayton | Dr. Bianca Chiara

Autoimmune Thyroid Solutions with Dr. Bianca Chiara

Dr. Bianca Chiara is a board-certified Family Medicine physician, completing her entire education, pre-k through medical residency, in her home state of New Jersey. Being raised by a chiropractor father and homemaker mother who cooked three meals a day from scratch, she was exposed to integrative healthcare practices and learned about the importance of nutrition and “food as medicine” at a young age.

As Dr. Chiara started her private practice, she realized her conventional medical training left her feeling void of the ability to truly help those with chronic illness and provide substantial preventative health strategies. In 2010 she started her journey with The Institute for Functional Medicine, an AMA accredited organization, offering evidence-based training for physicians in this field termed “functional medicine.” Dr. Chiara knew very quickly that she had found her path to answer the questions that traditional training had failed to address.

Today Dr. Chiara is extremely proud to be a certified functional practitioner, with what she believes are the tools to help patients uncover the root causes of their medical issues, as well as try to alleviate dependence on not only pharmaceuticals, but on herself, and all medical providers. Dr. Laura Brayton | Dr. Joy Sturgill

Naturopathy: Connecting Modern Medicine with Traditional Healing Therapies with Dr. Joy Sturgill

Dr. Joy received her undergraduate degree in International Business, Frenchand Music from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA and then worked for a few years in Project Management, first for The Carnegie and then for a language management firm.

Through her mother’s experience with ovarian cancer Dr. Joy realized the limitations of a purely conventional medical model and was introduced to the notion that there are alternatives out there. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find a qualified ‘alternative’ healthcare pracitioner.

Over time Dr. Joy’s job became unfulfilling and her desire to learn more about natural medicine continued to grow. She quit her business job and decided to pursue her passion to provide alternative care to those seeking it. Dr. Joy completed massage school and through that process discovered Naturopathic Medicine. This was what she had been looking for!

After completing 2 years of pre-med courses, Dr. Joy was accepted into the reknowned Bastyr University in Seattle, WA and 4 challenging, yet rewarding, years later received her doctorate degree. In the years since then Dr. Joy has completed the Energetix College of BioEnergetic Medicine and is a certified BioEnergetic Medicine practitioner.

Dr. Joy is strongly motivated by the desire to provide compassionate care and natural alternatives to those seeking health care to complement conventional medical treatment. She honors the uniqueness of each individual and provides support to each patient’s own innate healing abilities by employing both modern medicine and the wisdom of traditional healing therapies.

Although Dr. Joy is a licensable Naturopathic Physician, Pennsylvania does not currently license NDs. We are hoping this will change in the near future, however, as we have a bill going through the various levels of State legislature. You can support our efforts by visiting our State Association website here.

Dr. Joy also has certificates in BioEnergetic Medicine, Reiki, Reconnective Healing, and Matrix Energetics. She is passionate about examining all aspects of mind-body-spirit for the realization of freedom in this journey of life. On a personal note, Dr. Joy was recently married to the most amazing man and enjoys a full life with her 2 daughters and her husband and his 2 sons! The focus of her own healing path right now is awareness.

Dr. Laura Brayton | Dr. Vincent Pedre

C.A.R.E’ing for the GUT with Dr. Vincent Pedre

Dr. Vincent M. Pedre, Medical Director of Pedre Integrative Health and President of Dr. Pedre Wellness, is a Board-Certified Internist in private practice in New York City since 2004. His philosophy and practices are a blend of both Western and Eastern medical traditions. He is a Clinical Instructor in Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as well as certified in yoga and Medical Acupuncture. His unique combination of medicine is best described as integrative or defined by a functional, systems-based approach to health. With his holistic understanding of both sides of the equation, he can help each patient choose the best course of action for their ailments to provide both immediate and long-term relief. His holistic approach incorporates positive, preventative health and wellness lifestyle choices. Dr. Pedre Wellness is a growing wellness platform offering health-enhancing programs, along with informative social media and lifestyle products, such as dietary supplements, books and weight loss programs.

Dr. Pedre completed his pre-med training at Cornell University in 1995, where he was honored as a Cornell National Scholar, the highest honor given to entering freshmen, and attained a B.A. in Biology with Distinction in all subjects, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1999, under a scholarship awarded by the Board of Trustees for his achievements as an undergraduate and future promise as a doctor. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Pedre’s training and aspirations brought him to New York City, where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2002.

September 11, 2001 was a day that impacted the hearts and souls of many. Having completed his residency in the aftermath of 9/11, Dr. Pedre felt a strong connection to this event. Consequently, he dedicated a year to researching the potentially toxic effects of the environmental pollutants on the recovery workers following this great tragedy. His work contributed to “The World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program,” which is ongoing at Mount Sinai Hospital in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine. This program is an environmental medicine research project primarily focused on studying respiratory and psychiatric disease as a consequence of the disaster.

After this incredible experience, Dr. Pedre sought to bring his dream of the ideal medical practice to fruition. Convinced that the ideal method of practicing medicine combines the strengths of both Eastern and Western methodology, Dr. Pedre attended a yoga teacher-training in 2002 and underwent additional specialty training in Medical Acupuncture in 2003-4. With these trainings, he acquired knowledge of Eastern philosophy, meditation and the ancient healing arts in order to offer the broadest perspective and choices to his patients. Upon completion, Dr. Pedre could not find his dream in any existing practice, so instead of settling for less, he made his vision a reality and created Pedre Integrative Health in July 2004.

Dr. Pedre is a sought-after speaker and writer on sustainable health, prevention, and integrative and functional medicine. His expertise and informative commentator style has taken him beyond the boundaries of his private practice to appearances on the Martha Stewart Show, where he presented a segment on “The Top Medical Screening Tests” everyone should have, and to features on Sirius XM Radio’s “Doctor Radio” show, interviews on “The Gary Null Show” on Progressive Radio Networks, and guest blogs on Ecomii and Yahoo! Green, Yahoo!’s leading wellness blog platform. He is also an activist on the issue of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas extraction and its potential impacts on public health and the environment, including water contamination and air pollution.

Dr. Laura Brayton | Kristin Smith

Non-Toxic Skin Care with Kristin Smith

After spending nearly a decade of her professional career in front of the camera as a television news reporter, Kristin Smith went on seeking to help others. First, at the national nonprofit The Humane Society of the United States, and now with the mission-based beauty company, Beautycounter – working to get safe products into the hands of everyone.

As a mom of three (all still in diapers), Kristin is so aware of the safety of the products she uses on her skin and that of her family. And after finding out there are barely any laws regulating the multi-billion dollar beauty industry in the United States, she knew she had to take action.

The things she uses need to meet two criteria. They need to work, and they need to be safe. Beautycounter products meet those with beautiful, sparkling, flying colors. And now that she knows, she wants everyone else to know too.

Dr. Laura Brayton | Kirsten Falsey

A Journey Through Grief & Postpartum Depression with Kirsten Falsey

Kirsten Falsey was born in Elk Grove Village in Illinois and raised in Tucson, Arizona. She attended the University of Arizona where she was the recipient of an Alumni Scholarship. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and went on to become a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She moved to California and was a Labor and Delivery nurse for ten years, four of which she was a Charge Nurse. She became pregnant for the first time with twins in 2010. Then in 2011, right before they were born, Kirsten lost her beloved mother to cancer. While grieving over the loss of her mother, Kirsten gave birth to her twin daughters. Soon after giving birth, Kirsten started seeing a therapist, and eventually a psychiatrist, after it was realized that she was not only grieving the loss of her mother, but that she was also suffering from postpartum depression which eventually lead to stays in a psychiatric hospital.

Nearly two years after her twins were born, and with various forms of help, resources and therapy, Kirsten eventually was able to heal. She wrote in a journal throughout her entire process and those journal entries became the foundation for her book, “Hope and Emergence: A Journey Through Grief & Postpartum Depression.” Writing was a cathartic experience for Kirsten which made her cry, smile, and take ownership of her story. She hopes to reach other moms going through something similar. She hopes her story inspires and encourages others to seek help and let others know they are not alone.

Dr. Laura Brayton | Dr. Kathia Roberts

Seasons of Motherhood with Dr. Kathia Roberts

Dr. Kathia Roberts takes joy in her new role as a holistic mom while continuing her passion as a healer, naturopath, medical herbalist, and doctor of integrative medicine by empowering families with healthy, holistic alternatives in health care since 2004. She grew up in South Africa and began experimenting with herbal potions at an early age. As a teenager, she suffered from colitis from an eating disorder and was misdiagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. As a result, she was prescribed Prozac and Ritalin that caused multiple side effects. This life experience inspired her to help parents be mindful of having their child (or themselves) be defined by their diagnosis and to, rather, seek a holistic, mind-body-spirit approach to address the root cause naturally instead of masking it.

She has served on several statutory councils representing allied health professionals and continues to teach herbal medicine and mind-body therapies to other health care practitioners. She is the director of Seasonal Health Wellness Center and Apothecary in Hoboken, NJ where she dispenses customized remedies and formulations including herbal teas, homeopathy, capsules, lotions, oils, sublingual sprays, and more to address a wide variety of conditions. She facilitates mothers and mothers-to-be to embrace the Season of Motherhood with flexibility and ease by providing them with natural and holistic methods to cope with and adopt to this season. She also leads sound healing meditations to aid a peaceful mind by providing insight into daily struggles and encourage flow towards transformation.
