Surprising Symptoms of Spinal Misalignment

Subluxation

Did you know that many of the common symptoms of illness, such as sleep deprivation, a weakened immune system, ADHD, food allergies, headaches, and digestive issues, could be the result of a misalignment in your spine, or what is called a “subluxation”?

Your spine protects your spinal cord — the information highway for communication between the brain and the rest of the body.

When your spine is misaligned, or subluxated, the messages from the brain to the muscles, organs, and glands will be interrupted.  In other words, when you have a subluxation, parts of your body will not get the proper messages. This can result in a variety of symptoms, including the ones mentioned above.

Do you think you may have a subluxation?

My practice is built upon the philosophy that your body has the innate ability to heal itself.  As a wellness practitioner, I have the training and technique to help you locate and correct subluxations and to dissolve the barriers that keep you from achieving your greatest human potential.

A Solution for Migraine Headaches

Friday, September 28th, 2012

HeadacheHeadaches and migraines are fairly common occurrences amongst adults, especially women.

In fact, I had a patient in my office this morning who woke up with a severe migraine. She immediately called the office for an emergency appointment, as she had received much relief from chiropractic adjustments to her neck and jaw in the past.

If you suffer from headaches, and you’ve never had the alignment of your neck and TMJ (tempromandibular joint) checked out, I would highly recommend it, as misalignments contribute to nerve irritation and muscle spasm in the surrounding soft tissue.

Pinched nerves, as well as trigger point referral (pain referred from the knots in your muscles), commonly contribute to headaches. If you have had previous tests such as an MRI or CT scan, and no abnormalities were detected, and there is no known relation between your migraines and triggers like food allergies or hormonal imbalances, then I would strongly consider looking at possible musculoskeletal causes.

Backpack Carrying Safety Tips: Keep Your Kids Injury Free

Monday, September 10th, 2012

Research has shown an increasing number of reports of back pain in children, which is believed to be due – at least in part – to the improper use of backpacks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 4,928 emergency room visits each year result from injuries related to book bags and back carriers!

Book Bag Carrying Tipsindex11

Here are some tips to help prevent injuries in your children:

1. Look for a backpack that has wide, cushioned straps that help distribute weight on the shoulders evenly. The backpack should also have a waist strap to help stabilize the load by not allowing the pack to move around.

2. Make sure the backpack fits properly so that the straps are not so tight that the pack goes above the collar line or is wider than the shoulders, but also is not so loose as to hang more than four inches below the belt line.

3. Be sure that the weight of your child’s backpack is no more than fifteen percent of your child’s body weight.

4. Have your kids pack the heaviest objects first so they are carried lower and closer to the body. Eliminate any unnecessary items from the backpack.

5. When putting the backpack on, your child should bend at the knees and make sure to lift the pack with the legs, not the back, putting one strap on at a time.

6. Avoid wearing the backpack over only one shoulder or using messenger-style bags which get slung over one shoulder and cause improper weight distribution.

If a heavy backpack has already caused back pain, pediatric chiropractic and massage can correct the cause of the pain safely and effectively as well as prevent improper skeletal growth from poor posture.

Here’s to another great school year for your children!

What Chiropractic Can Do for Your Child

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012

Chriropractic for ChildrenI  love  when  parents  ask  about pediatric  chiropractic  because  children  and  babies  benefit  so greatly from it.

In fact, I have been a chiropractic patient myself since I was six  months  old!    Chiropractic   treatment   on  children  is accomplishing the same results as in adults, however, the technique is modified for their little bodies.

In other words, for children under the age of five, the treatment does not involve the “popping” noise commonly heard when adjusting adults.

Instead, the treatment is light vibration or massage over the misplaced spinal  segment to  restore its correct alignment. The reason why the correct alignment of the spinal joints  is  so important is because of the impact on the nervous system.

When vertebrae move out of place from physical, chemical, or emotional stress (which can even occur during the birthing process), the nerves that branch off of the spinal cord can be negatively impacted which makes it difficult for the brain and body to communicate.

This nerve interference has been shown to contribute to health symptoms like colic, ear infections, torticollis, allergies, constipation, and even ADHD.

From my own experience, children’s bodies respond excellently to chiropractic care when used as part of a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, N.A.E.T. (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique), of which I am a certified practitioner, is also extremely effective at clearing allergies safely and permanently in children (www.naet.com).
